Job description

The Pastor shall be a man called by God and equipped to lead the church with wisdom and humility. He must be well-trained in Scripture, committed to sound doctrine, and gifted in leadership and discipleship. The Pastor will faithfully preach the gospel, develop and mentor leaders, exhort the church in truth and love, and guide the congregation to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. He shall oversee the general ministries of the church and serve as one of its elders.

The Pastor shall be the chief shepherd and teacher of the church and shall be accountable to the Elders for the fulfillment of his ministry. He shall oversee the ministry and function of the church’s committees. The Pastor shall arrange for and conduct all public and regular services of the church. In the absence of the Pastor, the Elders, shall be responsible to arrange for the public services of the church.

Other members of the church functioning as paid or volunteer representatives of the church operate under the day-to-day supervision of the Pastor.

The Pastor shall:

1. Agree without reservation with the Homestead Baptist Church affirmation pf faith
2. Strive to meet the biblical standards for church leaders given in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
3. Possess the experience, education and abilities necessary for the position
4. Seek and discern God’s leading for the church, providing leadership and biblical instruction to fulfill the church’ s vision
5. Conduct timely visits to the sick and infirmed members of the congregation
6. Schedule in cooperation with the Elders regular meetings to discuss the direction of the church and its ministries
7. Communicate openly, respectfully, and honestly with the Elders regarding personal concerns about the church or specific members of the congregation
8. Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the church
