Genesis Church is located in the Tip of the Mitt” of Michigan, also known as northern, lower Michigan. Genesis is one church with multiple congregations. The home base is in Petoskey, Michigan which is a resort town of roughly 6,000 permanent residents located on the shores of Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan. There are four distinct seasons with wonderful summer temperatures in July and August and bountiful snow in the winter. There is a trove of outdoor recreational activities offered by the area such as hiking, kayaking, golf, tennis, boating, yoga, snow shoeing, and skiing. The area boasts a great system of schools, including public, charter, and Christian K-12th grade schools, as well as a community college that offers early college for high school students. Petoskey High School has a widely renowned band program. The lively downtown, known as the Gaslight District, offers a multitude of unique shops, restaurants, pubs, galleries, parks, a local market, library, and more. Cultural events from civic theatre to dancing to live music events, both indoors and out, bring entertainment opportunities for the whole family. Petoskey is also home to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital.

Director of Engagement

Overview

We are looking for a leader of leaders who will guide our congregation in becoming fully engaged as the hands and feet of Jesus in the church, community, and world.  The Director of Engagement should be administratively gifted with a bent toward implementation and the ability to organize and develop clear structures and processes for others to follow. This individual will have the heart of a shepherd toward those in the congregation as well as those in the community and find joy in developing Genesis’ human and financial resources to meet local, regional and global needs. The Director of Engagement will be part of the Genesis Executive Staff and be a resource to serve all the Genesis sites and ministries.

Responsibilities

Church Engagement and Administrative Oversight (60%)

  • Provide leadership in helping all participants at Genesis discover their spiritual giftedness and the unique way God has called them to serve within the local church and beyond.
  • Develop and implement processes that lead to greater engagement of church attenders in growth and service while coordinating these efforts with other staff and ministries.
  • Assist with the implementation of special ministry projects as they are assigned.

     

    “Love Your Neighbor” Ministry Development (25%)

  • Provide leadership in identifying local, regional and global needs that Genesis is best positioned to help meet with the Gospel.
  • Develop and lead a team of volunteers to lead our “Love Your Neighbor” initiatives.
  • Engage the congregation with opportunities to serve beyond the walls of the church building.
  • Provide guidance for the financial support of ministry partners.

     

    Ministry Integration (15%)

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings to enhance communication and coordinate ministry.
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Staff for “Big Picture” ministry development (Lead Pastor – vision, Executive Pastor – strategy, Director of Engagement – implementation).
  • Oversee the ministry budget in the areas for which they are responsible.
  • Maintain Godly and strong working relationships with all pastors, elders, staff, deacons and volunteers.
  • Will report to the Lead Pastor and will be encouraged and evaluated by the Lead and Executive Pastors.

     

    Qualifications

    The Director of Engagement will:

  • Be a Genesis Partner with a solid Christian testimony, meeting the qualifications of a servant leader as described in I Timothy 3:8-13.
  • Agree with and adhere to the Genesis Church Statement of Faith, Constitution and By-laws.
  • Embrace and champion the Genesis vision, purpose, and direction.
  • Have a strong gift of leadership and leadership development; ability to lead oneself and others (self-starter, takes initiative).
  • Demonstrate wisdom in decisions, actions, and recommendations.
  • Have a pastoral heart and is energized by discipling and shepherding others.
  • Demonstrated experience as an executive level leader, preferably within a church or Christian Ministry.

     

    Classification

    The following classifications apply to this position:

  • Non-Pastoral Director
  • Full Time
  • Salaried
  • Exempt  (As this is an exempt position, it should be expected that a standard workweek may consist of more than 40 hours.) 
  • Hybrid  (Some remote work is possible.  The amount will be agreed upon at the time of hire and reviewed regularly for effectiveness).
