Paul and Margie have been starting and leading ministries among the 2.6 million Waray people of the Philippines for the past 28 years. They have successfully started the Tacloban Bible Community Church, the InGen Campus ministry and Bethel International School. Paul is currently leading a team that is translating the Bible into Waray. Paul also continues to serve as the superintendent of Bethel International School and is starting a church planting institute within the Tacloban Bible Community Church.
Philippines // Our greatest privilege is joining Jesus in what he is building: his church. When we reach across the street and around the world with the gospel—locally and globally—we impact lives for eternity.

Paul and Margie Varberg have been our missionaries to the Waray speaking people of the Philippines for 30 years. The vehicle that Paul has been driving is now 14 years old and needs to be replaced. They plan to buy a relatively new second hand SUV since one of the primary ways Paul develops relationships with men is through taking them on outdoor adventures. Please donate so that they will have at least $20,000 by July 2018.
The currently published Bible in the Waray-waray language is not considered accurate by those who read English because its wording differs so significantly from the NIV English translation. As a result most pastors favor using the NIV English Bible even if their members are not fluent in English. This greatly reduces the understanding of church members because they are not able to read the Bible in their mother tongue.
A three story multi-purpose facility to serve as the hub for ministries throughout the Waray area is needed. The first story would have large activity rooms as well as classrooms for the University Student Center. These large rooms would also be used for leadership training classes in the evenings. The second floor would have a 500 seat auditorium for Tacloban Bible Community services as well as district wide conferences. The third floor would have classrooms, a library, and offices for a Bible school and leadership training. Additional land adjacent to the TBC campus will be purchased.
God is calling more Filipino men and women to leave their careers and go into full-time Christian service. Because these people often come from positions of leadership in government, business, or education, they bring to the ministry many leadership gifts which the Philippine church needs. However, most of these people have not had seminary training and have families to care for. They need scholarship assistance to pay for their seminary education and to provide for their families while they study.
The Tacloban Bible Community's University Student Center has been aggressively seeking to win college students to the Lord and to give them a vision for ministry. Several have already been saved and are being discipled. However, when these college students graduate many of them feel they would also like to receive additional training to do ministry so that as they pursue their careers they will be more skilled in doing ministry as well. Because most graduate have to wait a year after graduation to take their Board Exam and wait for its results these students have time to receive ministry training. The Tacloban Bible Community has an internship program designed to give graduates experience in evangelism and discipleship.
Bethel International School is the premier school of the Waray area of the Philippines. Its goal is to train up its students to be capable leaders in their society who have a personal commitment to Jesus and to making Jesus known. Because the school is full and has a waiting list of students wanting to get in, funds are needed to build a new building, in the area marked out in red, so that they can start having a second class at each grade level. The school also just purchased an adjacent 2.8 acre lot that needs to be filled in and have a wall built around it. Thanks for your generosity.
